About

The Chapel of El Cristo Rey at Grand Canyon is too small to accommodate a funeral mass. Roman Catholics interested in scheduling a Memorial Mass of Resurrection in the absence of the body or with Cremains are welcome to do so by contacting the Parochial Vicar. The Roman Catholic Church does not encourage the spreading of human remains at Grand Canyon or anywhere, but outlines directives for the proper repose of a body either to be buried in a cemetery or reposed in a niche at a cemetery if the body has been cremated.

The Chapel of El Cristo Rey is available for approved marriages within the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church. Roman Catholics who are not parishioners or residents of the Diocese of Phoenix must contact the Parochial Vicar six months in advance of reserving a date to use the chapel. All necessary completed preparations for Sacramental Marriage must be verified by your home diocese with expressed permission from your local pastor that you intend to celebrate your wedding at the Chapel of El Cristo Rey. If your priest will celebrate your marriage at the Chapel of El Cristo Rey, expressed permission must be sought with the Parochial Vicar to ensure that proper permissions have been verified and granted.

The Chapel of El Cristo Rey will be more than happy to accommodate your requests as long as they fall within the guidelines of the Roman Catholic Church.

Roman Catholic Anniversary Masses and Celebrations are available, as well as renewal of vows within or outside the context of Mass. Please contact the Parochial Vicar in advance. All couples must have been married in the Roman Catholic Church or an approved Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church.
